From the Design Table: The Story Behind the Re-Tee

Pattern Sneak Peek!
Next up on our needles is the Re-Tee, a minimalistic design that seamlessly blends Japanese street style inspiration with classic knitwear. We've infused it with modern details, making it a truly unisex piece perfect for any occasion.
The Re-Tee is designed to be your most versatile, all-season piece. Its foundational pattern allows you to knit the perfect tee for any time of year: keep it light for warmer weather by choosing a silk/linen and cashmere blend, or switch to a cozy wool and alpaca blend for colder days.
Design Inspiration Insights
The Re-Tee design started with two simple, yet exciting, ideas: "Gauge" and "Simple." As a knitter, I know that measuring gauge is the essential first step, but it often requires a firm commitment to a specific yarn and needle size. I wondered: what if a single pattern could be adapted for either lighter or thicker yarn weights? This approach allows me to work with common needle sizes like 4.0mm and use both Sport and DK weights, empowering you to knit a perfect tee for all four seasons using the same versatile instructions.
As a dedicated fashion enthusiast, I've always been inspired by the effortless flow of Japanese street style, which is often characterized by its unisex, loose, and comfortable silhouettes. I've consciously blended these elements into the Re-Tee pattern, ensuring a modern fit that drapes beautifully. You'll also find a few fun and unexpected design tweaks within the construction—a little delight to discover as you knit!
Construction Insights
The Re-tee is knitted top-down. The construction begins with the back panel, knit straight down to the underarm, where stitches are increased to create a continuous armhole line. The front panel is then picked up at the shoulder and shaped using short rows to form the crewneck line.
Once the panels are joined, the body is knitted straight down with a subtle decrease near the hem for a tailored finish. Finally, the sleeves are picked up and shaped with decreases, and the neck opening is finished with a classic rib stitch.
We can't wait to share this versatile staple with you soon!
